Market for Handwriting Recognition in PC: Key Findings, Global, 2014–2021
The HWR market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of % from 2014 to 2021 globally. Asian countries will be the focus for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tiers I suppliers to gain market traction.
Apart from traditional technology enablers for HWR such as MyScript, Hanwang, and Nuance, new Tier I suppliers such as Fujitsu and Mitsubishi have started exploring the possibilities of entering this space.
Non-automotive participants such as Google and Apple offer HWR applications (apps) for their respective mobile phones. These apps, which are available for free, are more likely to be roped in for automotive use cases as a plug-in-and-use solution.
With the success of HWR, premium vehicle manufacturers have started to integrate this technology into their entry-level cars, such as the Audi A3. Mass market manufactures such as Volkswagen, Ford, and GM are also integrating this technology into their cars in China.
The industry is now moving towards controlling the entire infotainment with help from HWR on a dedicated track pad or track mouse. This feature will be available only from premium manufacturers.
