Frost & Sullivan's Overview of AHIP Institute 2015: Healthcare Payers Seek New Tools and Strategies to Navigate Industry Upheaval

Frost & Sullivan was in attendance at the annual conference of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) held in early June in Nashville. AHIP is the largest national trade association representing the US health insurance industry and focuses on advocacy, education, and information. AHIP was formed in 2003 with the merger of the two key health insurance trade associations in the US—the Health Insurance Association of America and the American Association of Health Plans. Today, AHIP’s membership is composed of about companies that sell health insurance coverage to more than million Americans. This year’s annual conference, the AHIP Institute, focused on how a variety of industry stakeholders—not just health insurance companies, but providers, technology vendors, entrepreneurs, and patients—are coming together in new ways to collectively “reinvent” the industry. The following is a review of some important news and health insurance industry trends heard at the AHIP Institute, as well as perspectives from a variety of industry participants on some of the key areas where healthcare payers need to hit the reset button.

This includes analyst perspectives on:
Notable announcements such as the resignation of AHIP CEO Karen Ignagni, and UnitedHealthGroup's exit from the organization.

Digital transformation and the healthcare enterprise: driving business value
Payer need to reach consumers
