Enterprise-Level Smart Device Operations and Monetization Control: Overcoming the Challenge of Multi-Carrier SKUs through Remote Subscriber Management
This report brings to light the multi-carrier, multi-platform dilemma that global enterprises face when they sell turn-key connected devices to a global customer audience. In this report, we explicitly focus on the nagging problem of provisioning, tracking, monetizing and reporting on smart-enabled devices when they, for example, are manufactured in one country and used in another.
The need for humans to talk with one another in an effective and affordable manner, often over great distances, is what started the communications industry more than years ago. Human-to-human (H2H) connectivity is also what continues to drive the industry today, albeit with a heavy push to do everything in near real time and in a more personalized manner, especially when it comes to delivering bandwidth at a price that is acceptable to both the customer and provider.2
Our world has many more connections than those represented by the billion people now with mobile voice and data access. In fact, the total number of connections today is estimated at approximately billion, growing to more than billion by 2020.3 We are at an age where “being connected” can mean an H2H event, or human-to-machine (H2M) event, or a machine-to-machine (M2M) event.
What is making the connected world or Internet of Things (IoT) grow to such proportions? Simply put, it is the use of technology and mobile device functionality to help nearly every major industry improve its goods and services in a manner that can provide a better experience for its customers. This applies to healthcare, telematics (automobiles and fleet management), retail services, financial services, education, publishing, insurance, supply chain, smart utilities, electronics, government services and public transportation, to name a few.
