From now through 2019, global demand for windows and doors is expected to expand nearly six percent annually. Growth will be driven by rapid gains in the US market due to an expected rebound in the country’s housing market. The Asia/Pacific region, led by continued strong growth in China, will also post fast gains in demand through 2019.

This report segments the fenestration product industry by product (window or door) and material (wood, metal, or plastic). Data is provided in million dollars.

Through 2019, metal windows and doors will remain the largest segment, accounting for over 40 percent of the market. Plastic products will see faster growth, however, driven by their lower cost and superior performance characteristics, such as fewer maintenance requirements.

Residential buildings accounted for just over half of global demand for fenestration products in 2014. However, this level was well below historical levels, as housing market collapses in the US and many countries in Western Europe experienced limited growth. The nonresidential market is expected to continue to gain share through 2019, as it will post significantly faster gains that that of the residential market.
