Industrial Valves

Industrial Valves

Growth in the US market for industrial valves will average 4.9% annually to $19.8 billion in 2018. Demand will be fueled by increased output in process manufacturing and other markets that use valves.

This report segments the industrial valve industry by material, product and market. Data is provided in dollars.

Valve products include:
Application-specific standard (nuclear; plumbing, heating, and cooling; and waterworks)
Multi-turn standard (gate, globe, and check)
Quarter turn standard (ball, butterfly, and plug)
Other standard valve products
Automatic actuators
Automatic control (pneumatic, solenoid, and electric and other)
Automatic regulator

Multi-turn standard valves will remain the largest of these in dollar terms in 2018, accounting for 22% of the market total. The fastest growth will be posted by automatic regulator valves, driven by rising output in end-use industries and by concerns about safety and general system regulation.

Major markets include:
Construction
Process manufacturing (chemicals, petroleum refining, pulp and paper, and other)
Resource extraction (crude oil and natural gas, and mining)
Utilities (Electric power, natural gas, and water and sewage)
Other

Process manufacturing was the leading market in 2013, responsible for 38% of all industrial valve demand. The most rapid gains through 2018 are forecast for construction, supported by a rebound in building activity after a period of decline.

Among the materials used to manufacture industrial valves are:
Copper-based (brass and bronze)
Iron
Steel and steel alloys
Plastic and other

Steel and steel alloys are the most commonly used valve materials, accounting for 49% of the 2013 market total. However, sales of copper-based valves will climb the fastest through 2018, driven by an upturn in building construction spending.

Hundreds of companies are active in the US industrial valve industry. Leading suppliers include Cameron International, Curtiss-Wright, Emerson Electric, Flowserve, General Electric, McWane, Mueller, Pentair, and Watts Water Technologies.
