Wireless Telecommunications Services
Brief Excerpt from Industry Overview Chapter:

The wireless telecommunications services industry is directly linked to the ubiquitous mobile phone, and increasingly other modern connected devices. As much of the developed world is experiencing market saturation, growth in mobile subscriptions is expected to come mainly from India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, as well as Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Industry growth in those regions is driven by large and relatively young populations, fast GDP growth, and limited fixed line infrastructure.

With some markets reaching saturation, competition has grown fierce as wireless telecommunications service providers fight to attract subscribers from other carriers to sustain revenue growth. Until recently, the proliferation of smartphones and tablets largely drove revenue and R&D growth. Companies can differentiate their services through pricing, network performance, customer service, and diversity of offerings, such as mobile, broadband, and TV services.

Major services include voice calls, text messaging, and internet access. While voice telephony traditionally dominated wireless network traffic, data surpassed it for the first time in the late 2000s.
