Switch, Connector & Other Wiring Device Manufacturing
Brief Excerpt from Industry Overview Chapter:
Companies in this industry make current-carrying electrical wiring devices, including bus bars, switches, connectors, and electrical receptacles (outlets) and plugs. Major companies include US-based Hubbell, Leviton Manufacturing, and GE, as well as ABB (Switzerland), Legrand and Schneider (both based in France), and SMK Corporation (Japan).
Demand is driven by both residential and nonresidential construction spending. The profitability of individual companies depends on manufacturing efficiency and effective distribution. Large companies have advantages in economies of scale in purchasing, production, and distribution. Small companies can compete by offering niche products. The US industry is concentrated: the 50 largest companies account for about 75% of industry revenue.
