Evolution of the Brazilian steel and metals sector
The Brazilian steel & metals industry has produced 30.2 million tons of crude steel in 2016, decreasing an additional 9.3% compared to 2015 and 14.2% since the peak of 2011. Total metals production in Brazil accounted for almost 39 million tons with revenues of US$ 39 billion in 2017. Trade balance remained positive over the past years and amounts to US$ 9.1 billion in 2016. Decrease in demand for steel in the world resulted in strong misalignment between production and installed capacity and the recent decrease in Chinese production concerns the global market about the possibility of recovery in 2017 and 2018.
This report analyses the subject market in Brazil, its main products and services, main players’ performance and Brazilian steel & metals segments, as well as an overview of the global steel industry.
