In 2019, production volumes of refined petroleum products accelerated rapidly, owing to increasing domestic production capacity. Two mega-refineries, operated by Hengli Petrochemical Co and Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co, started operation during the year, with a combined refining capacity of 800,000 bpd (barrels per day). Overall, according to national statistics, in 2019, the country’s processing capacity reached 650 million tonnes of crude oil, up by 8% on the previous year.
