Sex Based Harassment: From Me Too to What Now
What sets apart our issue is how it will incorporate the concept of power to understand historic and current practices, resistance, and understandings of sex-based harassment. As feminist scholars have long noted, power imbalances both lead to and are sustained by discriminatory practices. Power imbalances have long enabled and motivated men to dominate women, sexually and otherwise. Does the #MeToo movement and other shifts in the balance of power for women forecast change in reactions to and remedies for such abuses? We will ask all contributors to pay attention to how power inequities may or may not be shifting to challenge the social narrative of a world divided between dominant men and submissive women. The contributors may comment on the #MeToo and other movements in their analysis. We want to understand the causes and underpinnings of sexual harassment, and forms of social change and resistance, to abate its occurrence and impact.
