The findings of the articles in this special issue contribute to a better understanding about the role of artisans in the development of cultural tourism. As there is increased interest in local, handmade and cultural products this special journal issue has developed the research on the importance of artisans to the entrepreneurship literature. Moreover, the articles in this special journal issue have developed theory about artisan entrepreneurship and how it differs to other types of entrepreneurship. This is an important step in the evolution of the research field of artisan entrepreneurship and its place within the broader cultural and tourism literature.
