Packaged water started the year with good growth in Q1-16, driven by the popularity of carbonated water and its health appeal. The price positioning of carbonated water is also attractive to consumers as an alternative to other rtd beverages.
Private Label products performed below expectations in the soft drinks market, though there were mixed results by individual beverage categories.
Beer benefited from its popularity and sociable image. Local beer performed broadly in line with the market, while discounters’ outlets made gains by predominately selling imported Private Label products.
Consumption patterns for dairy drinks were broadly unchanged, with a focus on economically-priced products, as consumers are still reserved with their spending habits.
