Summary Q3-16 beverage consumption did not reach the same demand as Q3-15 despite having the best ever tourist season. Domestic consumption was not in recovery and the weather was unfavorable towards the large soft drinks categories, causing increased pressure levels for domestic players. Daily summer temperatures were moderate (unlike in 2015) and the consumption of packaged water, fruit syrups and iced/RTD tea drinks was lower than in Q3-15. The alcoholic drinks market showed positive growth thanks to an increase in beer and spirits consumption which was boosted by increased tourism.
Key Findings Carbonates reached just a flat performance as most players recorded poorer results than in Q3-15.
The main benefactors of the quarter were still drinks and sports drinks that witnessed new launches in H1-16 which boosted consumption.
The nectars category is losing its consumer base to cheaper still drinks.
PL products have still yet to penetrate the market in sports drinks, iced/RTD coffee drinks and enhanced water.
