Beer holding majority of share in the overall alcoholic beverage category experienced a 5% growth as the hot summer weather and increase in tourists drove volumes up. Increase in tourism also increased the on-premise consumption of beer. Can being more convenient pack format, grew by 27% in 2015. Leading brands recorded better sales of can than PET. Lager, the favorite of most of the consumers in the market continued to be the main beer type with a share of 94%. The leading international brand was Loewenbrau with a share of 25%, Holsten with a share of over 12% and Lasko Zlatorog held a share of 9%. All three brands saw an increase in volume due to the strength of their brand owners.
Beer saw good growth as tourism and hot summer weather increased demand.
Lager continued to hold onto the majority of the beer volume consumption as this was the preferred option for many of the domestic consumers as well as the tourists entering the country.
Craft beer gained popularity and was considered the segment with the largest growth potential.
The discount segment leapt forward by 15% driven by B-brands that main player offered in cans.
Price was often the main driver for consumers when looking for a beer to buy and the beers to see the highest growth were the ones that did not increase their prices as much.
The premium segment saw a reduction in volume of around 4% as consumers looked for either cheaper discount or mainstream brands or reached into the super premium segment for craft beers.
The introduction of craft beers brought with it beers that had a higher level of alcohol to consumers attention.
