Retro packaging was starting to become favored by consumers after two brands were released with simpler packaging designs and vintage themed advertising. Premium beers saw a growth of 30% in order to reach a market share of 19%. As consumes had more disposable income these brands were becoming more and more appealing.

The top three brand owners, Heineken, Molson Coors and Carlsberg, held a substantial 81% of the total beer market in Bulgaria.
The discount segment leads the market with a share of 50% and saw a growth of 8% despite the closure of the Penny retail chain where most volumes were sold.
Dark beer saw heavy investments from brewers but did not manage to grow and instead saw a decline of 17%, the category only held a tiny 1% share of the market.
