An improving outlook for Zimbabwe's economy will feed into food and drink sales over 2018 and beyond. The removalof President Robert Mugabe in late 2017 has boosted consumer confidence and investor sentiment, and economic growth inZimbabwe will begin to feed into food sales. Rising disposable incomes will prompt increased spending in non-essential categoriessuch as sugar products. Meanwhile, carbonated soft drinks will also outperform, as the category is not yet saturated, despite leadingthe soft drinks sector. While alcohol consumption in volume terms will fall, sales will be the strongest across the food and drinkcomplex, as consumers trade up their purchases. The expanding formal grocery retail sector will boost food and drink sales, thoughinformal retail will retain a key place in the landscape.
