Zimbabwe Banking & Financial Services Q4 2020

Zimbabwe Banking & Financial Services Q4 2020

Key View:

Zimbabwe's banking and financial services sector continues to contend with significant operational and structuralchallenges, which have been compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic and deepening recession. In the banking sector, poor assetquality and the dominance of foreign denomination loans combined with the depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar is weighing onperformance. The insurance sector meanwhile is struggling with hyperinflation which is distorting premium growth and elevatingclaims. Similarly, the asset management sector is faced with weak investor confidence amidst financial market volatility, somethingwhich has not been improved by the temporary suspension of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange earlier in 2020.
