New Zealand Oil and Gas Report Q2 2016

BMI View: Limited scope for new oil and gas will maintain the long-term downtrend in New Zealand'shydrocarbon production over the next 10 years. Declining gas production is a particular concern as thecountry does not have any gas import infrastructure to make up for diminishing local volumes via imports.

New Zealand will remain a net importer of crude oil owing to falling domestic production, a slowdown inexploration due to low oil prices and rising run rates at its refinery.

New Zealand's crude oil and liquids production is set to nearly halve over the next decade, as lack of newdiscoveries and natural declines at ageing fields weigh on the country's ability to sustain current levels ofoutput over the long-term.

Additional gas from the Mangahewa and the Pohokura fields will support natural gas production toincrease through to 2020, though limited scope for new discoveries will allow natural declines take its tollon overall output from 2021 and thereafter.
