Zambia and Zimbabwe Telecommunications Q3 2018
We have made some amendments to Zambian and Zimbabwean telecommunications outlook, including extending ourforecasts to 2027. In Zambia, we have downgraded our broadband figures based on a more modest figures reported by theregulator. Juxtaposing this, we have upgraded the 3G/4G outlook as data usage growth appears to be strong. Opportunities for newplayers will arise in the services sector, where businesses and utilities can be targeted more effectively. With regards to the wirelinesector, we believe access to mobile technology will hamper growth of fixed voice subscriptions in both markets. While our outlookon the Zimbabwean mobile market is also positive, government intervention casts a shadow on growth prospects. Under newreform-minded leadership, we believe the Government's plans to privatise operators and merge government-owned ISPs will bringmuch needed competition to a market dominated by privately-owned operators, while reducing the government’s meddling andthe regulator’s perceived favouritism towards public operators.
