Venezuela Power Q1 2019
The economic and political crisis in Venezuela continues to hamstring the country's struggling power network.Infrastructure, both in terms of generation and distribution, is crumbling. Many power stations are not currently functioning - a resultboth of the failure of ageing equipment and disruption to fuel supplies, resulting in persistent power outages - an issue exacerbatedby the disruption of distribution equipment. The outlook for the market is unlikely to improve. State interference in the market, combined with excessive barriers to foreign investment and huge economic uncertainty, means that Venezuela's power sector willnot attract the investment it desperately requires, despite the theoretical potential offered by a country with vast natural resources.
