United States Information Technology Q4 2020
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the US IT market will vary across market segments and product categories in2020 and beyond. In the short term, there was a boost to PC demand during lockdown generated by remote working and studying, but the more lasting impact was for the adoption of cloud solutions as firms adapted operations to a new era of radical uncertaintyand social distancing. Our core scenario is for a broad recovery starting in 2021 once the public health crisis concludes with thedeployment of a vaccine, though the precise timing is uncertain and there could still be a drag from economic scarring if firms andhouseholds maintain elevated levels of precautionary saving. Meanwhile, in the short term the highest impact downside risk is of asecond wave of infections in Q420-Q121 that would require a further downward revision to the short term IT market forecast.
