The UK market continues to develop in terms of data usage and speed, while it is saturated in the number of mobilesubscriptions. Close to 70% of households subscribe to pay-TV and there is room to grow the number of superfast broadbandsubscriptions from 12.8mn in the end of 2017. The regulator's decisions to allow the deal between BT and EE has allowed BT tobecome a clearly dominant player, trailing slightly behind O2 in the number of mobile subscriptions and comfortably dominatingthe wireline market. Meanwhile, the government is keen to improve data services in the country and has offered GBP25mn to six 5Gtest centres, and 13 areas in the country have secured GBP95mn to develop fibre connections. The award of mobile spectrum for5G development is conducted in two stages with auctions held in April 2018 and planned for the second half of 2019 to allowcommercial roll-out in 2020.
