United Arab Emirates Water Report 2015

United Arab Emirates Water Report 2015

BMI View: A growing economy, high water demand and decreasing water supply is putting the UAE'swater infrastructure under some pressure, increasing the need to invest and maintain current infrastructureto avoid a shortfall in the future. However, improved and more rigorously enforced water managementplans, as well as the reduction of leakage and wastage, will help the UAE to overcome its water shortages.

Moreover, the potential increase in tariffs will also discourage wastage and, in our view, result in moreconservative consumption by both domestic and commercial users.

The government in the UAE is still struggling to close the water supply and demand gap, a result of fallinggroundwater levels, but is beginning to see some success in this area. Reducing consumption remains apriority, as does increasing desalination production and forming water and investment relationships withother nations.
