United Arab Emirates Power Q4 2018
With fuel loading at the Barakah 1 nuclear power plant now set to take place in late 2019 or early 2020, our forecastsnow show generation from this fuel source starting to contribute to the grid from 2020, at an initial rate of 9TWh, before incrementalincreases as the second phase comes online to an eventual 35.9TWh (or 21.2% of the UAE’s total generation) in 2023. Beyond that, our forecasts remain largely unchanged this quarter, other than some tweaks to the trajectory of thermal generation over the nextcouple of years. We remain quite bullish about the overall trajectory of power generation, with clean coal and solar - the lattercontributing more than 10% of capacity by 2027 - all feeding into sector growth, while the share of natural gas to the power mixdeclines in relative terms.
