United Arab Emirates Food & Drink Q2 2020
Key View:
We project the food and drink industry in the UAE to record healthy growth over 2020. Household spending growth onfood is forecast to reach 4.5% in 2020, while non-alcoholic drinks will record growth of 17.1%. Expo 2020 is set to increase thenumber of inbound arrivals into the country, boosting both the retail and food services sectors. While the average disposableincome remains high, consumers have become somewhat more price conscious in relation to food and drink spending followingthe introduction of VAT in 2018 and a 'sin tax' in 2017. As the health trend is becoming more prominent among UAE-basedconsumers, we forecast strong growth for low-calorie and more nutritious food and drink products.
