BMI View:

Ukraine's mining sector will continue to feel the effects of ongoing hostilities between thegovernment and pro-Russian separatists. The events have led to severe depletion of the country's mineralproduction capacity over recent quarters. The business environment remains severely dented, with much ofthe country's transport infrastructure having been damaged by fighting.

Recent Developments And Forecasts:


During January-May 2017 Ukraine mined 15.9 million tonnes (mnt) of coal, down by 3.2% y-o-y.According to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, coking coal output dropped by 26.0%, or to2.8mnt, while that of power-generating coal increased by 3.8% to 13.0mnt.
