Turkey Telecommunications Q1 2019
Turkey's telecommunications market is well developed and growing. More than 80% of subscribers use 4.5G technology, while almost all the rest are 3G subscribers. Competition between three strong mobile network operators aids innovation andmitigates prices in a market dominated by post-paid subscriptions. The wireline voice market has been staying relatively stable andis dominated by incumbent Türk Telekom, the M2M market is growing, and the number of broadband Internet subscribers is rapidlyexpanding. However, a long ongoing legal dispute over ownership of the market leading telecoms company Turkcell and corporategovernance issues in the company, as well as growing government influence on the telecommunications sector could affect furthermarket development. In the short-term, macroeconomic pressure is likely going to affect market growth.
