Thailand Tourism Report Q2 2015

BMI View: Although Thailand's tourism market experienced a slowdown in 2014 in the wake of the militarycoup, we hold a positive outlook for this well-established and popular tourism destination in the AsiaPacific region. Thailand has a strong and extensive transport network, including a wide range of air travelconnections both regionally and globally. Visitor numbers are set to increase, and several global hotelgroups are taking advantage of this growth potential to invest in new properties across the country.

Thailand was placed under military rule following the coup in May 2014. General elections were due inOctober 2015; however, these have now been pushed back until 2016. We expect that the domestic politicallandscape will remain volatile for some years to come, undermining Thailand's economic growth potential.

We do note, however, that should Thailand be able to maintain security and avoid violent unrest(particularly in the run-up to elections) the tourism market should is likely to be unaffected. Indeed, theinterim military junta recognises the importance of tourism spending to the domestic economy and is keento avoid disruption.
