Thailand Information Technology Report Q2 2015
BMI View: After a growth slowdown in 2013 and 2014 as economic and political uncertainty weighed on consumer and enterprise confidence, we expect IT market spending growth to accelerate in 2015. We forecast an IT market spending growth CAGR of 6.7% 2015-2019, with total value forecast to reach THB225.4bn in 2019. Over the medium term strong growth is forecast across all IT segments making the Thai IT market one of the largest and fastest growing in the region. Drivers such as high private final consumption and the economy's strong growth trajectory will support the market's expected expansion. In addition, fundamentals such as increasing connectivity and the falling price of devices are enabling a wider range of potential users to enter the market. We see strongest growth in product categories such as tablets, cloud computing, big data analytics, real-time business management systems and enterprise software adoption among SMEs.
Headline Expenditure Projections
Computer Hardware Sales: THB88.8bn in 2014 to THB93.5bn in 2015, an increase of 5.4%. Desktop and notebook demand expected to return to growth, offsetting a contraction in tablet volumes after the boom of 2011-2014.
Software Sales: THB15.3bn in 2014 to THB16bn in 2015, an increase of 4.1%. Growth expected to slow from 2014 when demand was supplemented by OS upgrade sales following the withdrawal of Microsoft support for XP. However, enterprise modernisation to support growth of enterprise software spending, and increased supply of SaaS will help to boost adoption rates among SMEs.
