BMI View:

While Thailand’s food and drink sectors are positioned for steady growth throughout our forecast period, a number ofissues will combine dampen consumption growth for some sub-sectors. A recently enforced tax on soft drinks containing sugarprompted spending to drop 0.9% in 2017 however we expect this to recover this year. Nevertheless, as a consequence, we areexpecting greater spending on heather drink options such as juices, bottled water or functional drinks. The government’s has alsorecently increased taxes on alcoholic beverages by an average of 2% and this will equate to an expected drop in consumption ofaround 0.8% each year.
