BMI View: The structure of the Tanzanian mobile market has changed in Q415, with Tigo finalising itsacquisition of Zantel to become the second player in the market, overtaking Airtel but still behind Vodacom,and Viettel launching under Halotel. This will drive growth in a country where penetration remains low,with a focus on covering rural areas, rolling out advanced networks such as 3G and 4G, and developingservices such as mobile money. The fixed market will remain depressed, as incumbent TTCL is till impactedby both governance and restructuring issues.

Penetration remains low, at 68.4%

There were 16,471,400 mobile money subscribers in the country at the end of the quarter, the main driverfor value added services.
