BMI View: We hold a positive view on Taiwan's food and drink industry. Not only increasing disposable incomes of the country's households and rising adult population, but also existing MGR channels, especially in the convenience store format, will allow demand for food and drink products to grow. Thanks to a large population of young adults, Taiwan will remain receptive to innovations and imported products, as exemplified by strong demand projections for craft beers, spirits, coffee and tea.

Taiwan's highest concentration of convenience stores in the world is harming the segment's players as hypermarkets now seem to be positioned for faster growth. The Ministry of Economic Affairs expects that the growth in sales in the biggest store format will amount to 4.6% in 2017.
