BMI View: The tourism industry in Sweden, particularly in popular cities such as Stockholm and
Gothenburg, is well established with a competitive hotel and accommodation sector. Although a relatively
small market, visitor numbers to Sweden are on the rise and this is attracting the interest of a range of
investors. Nearby and neighbouring states currently account for the majority of inbound travel, though
Sweden is investing in marketing campaigns aimed at boosting travel from markets further afield.
Expanding the reach of tourism across the country and creating a year-round product are also key
development aims which will support the sustainable growth of the market.
