Sudan and South Sudan Power Q4 2019
Hydropower will remain the dominant source of electricity in Sudan over our forecast period to 2028, while South Sudanrelies heavily on oil-fired power supplies over the coming decade. Ongoing conflict, rampant corruption, widespread poverty andweak government institutions in both markets will weigh heavily on foreign investment, driving off all but the most risktolerant investors. Limited financial support and bureaucratic challenges in licensing will delay plans for new projects, leaving muchof these markets' populations either without electricity or reliant on private generators for reliable supply. However, we note that thedevelopment of new power interconnections will boost import capacity in both Sudan and South Sudan, posing an upside risk tothe quality of their electricity supplies.
