Sub-Saharan Africa Power Q4 2018
The SSA region will maintain dependence on coal and hydropower for the majority of its power supply through to 2027.Private sector investment through PPPs will be a key factor in the growth of the region’s power capacity, particularly in financinglarger-scale, high-cost projects. The launch of the US’ ‘Power Africa Gas Roadmap’ will improve competitiveness in the market, increasing investment in gas-fired power projects. SSA’s high potential for renewables will see some growth, but comparatively highcosts and low yields will result in prioritisation of ‘traditional’ power projects over our 10-year forecast period.
