BMI View: SSA will continue to be one of the underperforming regions for vehicle sales globally, based onour forecast for 1.4% growth in 2017 compared with global sales growth of 2.5%. Although weak consumerspending power remains a regional trend, we do expect the passenger car segment to outperformcommercial vehicle sales in 2017 and for the remainder of the forecast period to 2021.

Key Views

We have revised down our forecast for regional vehicle sales growth to 1.4% from 2.4% previously onthe back of individual country revisions.

While conditions are improving in key markets like South Africa, pressures facing the consumer inseveral markets across the region will still provide a barrier to affording new vehicles.
