The government remains committed to phase out coal and nuclear in preference for gas and non-hydrorenewables sources, as reaffirmed in the Energy Ministry's new energy plan. That said, President Moon's nuclear phase-out policycontinues to face strong and growing opposition, and will come under increasing scrutiny, particularly ahead of the upcoming 2020legislative elections. Given the high capacity factor of nuclear power, it will likely cause trickle-down implications on other fuelsources, and affect the power mix significantly, especially since the long-term viability of his energy plan remains in question.
