South Korea Autos Q1 2020
We believe that the trade dispute between Japan and South Korea offers Korean automakers an upside, as consumersshunning Japanese branded vehicles will likely opt for South Korean produced vehicles. This means that South Korean automakerswill have to increase output to keep up with the expected uptick in demand. Furthermore, we expect Korean automakers to step uptheir advertising campaigns in order to capitalise on the current weakness of Japanese automakers in South Korea and in order togain some market share from the Japanese automakers. That said, we note that there is some significant upside potential for thecountry's vehicle production industry as the demand for new energy vehicles from Hyundai and Kia will continue to expand as moreconsumers make the shift to electric vehicles over the coming decade.
