South Africa Banking & Financial Services Q1 2019
The South African agribusiness sector is on a moderate growth trajectory out to 2022, aided by a recovery in corn andsugar production and further stimulated by growth in the pork and poultry sector. That said, there a number of structural barriersand policy uncertainty that pose downside risks to our otherwise positive outlook. Land reform uncertainty, rising farm input costs, and a deprecation local currency could hamper future growth. President Cyril Ramaphosa’s stimulus plan, however, which promisesto improve infrastructure and expand rural access to credit, poses upside risk to our long-term production forecasts.
