Slovenia Food & Drink 2021
Key View:
Food and non-alcoholic drinks spending was shielded from the negative impact of Covid-19 in 2020 as consumersincreased their focus on priority purchases amid high levels of uncertainty. Looking into 2021, we forecast a deceleration in foodand non-alcoholic drinks spending growth due to high base effects. Alcoholic drinks spending and consumption was depressed in2020 due to the shuttering of restaurants and bars for a significant portion of the year with consumers limited to mass grocery retailin which spending is generally lower. In 2021, we forecast alcoholic drinks spending and consumption to return to positive growthdue to the low base effects of 2021. Our medium-term outlook for food and drink spending is positive with growth being supportedby a recovery in economic activity which bodes well for the employment and wage prospects of consumers.
