BMI View: As units three and four of the Mochovce nuclear power plant come online, we forecast nuclearcapacity to increase 25.9% in 2018 and 20.6% in late 2019, with these projects scheduled to come on-linein the latter stages of those years. The increased power capacity from these plants will contribute to anincrease of total power generation capacity, which we forecast will grow by 6.2% in 2018 and 5.8% in2019, for a total of 8,724MW and 9,228MW, respectively.
Latest Updates And Structural Trends
We retain our forecast that Mochovce 3 and Mochovce 4 will be complete in late 2018 and late 2019,respectively.
In March 2017, Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) announced that Mochovce 3 and Mochovce 4 were 94.7%and 82.8% complete respectively. The firm approved its provisional budget for the period 2017 to 2021,which included an additional revision to the cost of the Mochovce project, with the total cost of the twounits scaled up to USD5.8bn by that stage. Also that month, the Slovak Spectator reported that theNational Criminal Agency (NAKA) had conducted a raid on suppliers for the Mochovce plant, in thecounties of Kosice and Presov, in eastern Slovakia.
