Singapore Power Report 2017

BMI View: Thermal power, specifically natural-gas fired power, and non-hydropower renewables will seesome growth in Singapore as the country works towards expanding domestic capacity and improvingenergy security. The country's existing power infrastructure, including the transmission and distributiongrid, is already very well developed and limited space for large-scale new projects and a lack of suitabilityto the development of sectors such as wind or geothermal, precludes the sector from more rapid growth.Singapore will remain heavily reliant upon natural-gas as the primary energy source, leaving the countryvulnerable to supply disruption and price increases, though efforts to expand storage capacity will improveenergy security.

Latest Updates and Structural Trends

Natural-gas accounts for almost 95% of Singapore's domestic energy mix, with generation of 47.29TWhin 2017. The sector will largely maintain its dominance in the power market throughout the forecastperiod, despite small gains in the non-hydropower renewables sector. Overall natural -gas output isforecast to increase from 47.99TWh in 2017 to 58.55TWh in 2026.
