Singapore has enjoyed two successive years of strong growth in petrochemicals output on the back of capacityexpansion. With investment now focused on extending and diversifying the production chain, the focus will now be on adding valueand away from volume growth. In this area, Singapore has existing advantages, but will need to stay ahead of regional competitors inorder to sustain output. This trend should support margins at a time when US ethane-based basic petrochemicals are set to floodthe Asian market. Singapore's boosted trade relations with China at a time of trade tensions between Beijing and Washington shouldalso grow exports over the medium term.
