In the two main segments of Serbia’s insurance sector the momentum of premiums is changing, but in differentdirections. In the non-life segment, which accounts for about three-quarters of all premiums written, growth will likely be negligiblein 2019. This is because of the contraction in the property insurance sub-sector. Premiums should, however, expand in the othersub-sectors - particularly for personal accident insurance. In the life segment, premiums should achieve double-digit growth in2019 as life insurance gains ground relative to bank deposits and other conduits for organised savings. Taking a long-term view,most factors are positive as the economy should expand and financial risk is being reduced as Serbia’s government prepares for thecountry’s accession to the EU. The sector is also dominated by regional majors who have access to capital, as well as strong brandsand know-how.
