The outlook for Saudi Arabia's food and drink market will improve significantly from 2018 onwards. The combination ofrebounding economic growth and demand-side inflation will help to drive headline growth in food and drink sales. New regulatorychallenges, including the introduction of VAT, a 'sin tax' on sugary drinks and tobacco, and restrictions on non-Saudi employees inthe grocery retail sector, will increase operating risks for companies. However, rising disposable incomes, a large youthful consumerbase and increasing demand for premium products underpin our view that the long-term rewards on offer in Saudi Arabia outweighthe risks.
