Saudi Arabia Autos Report Q2 2016

Saudi Arabia Autos Report Q2 2016

BMI View: The combination of a slowing economy, lower oil prices and higher local interest rates has led to BMI adopting a more cautious stance towards the Saudi Arabian new vehicle sales market in 2016. We expect a decline of 1.8% sales growth for the sector this year, with passenger cars to outperform commercial vehicles. Key Views

Over 2016-2020 we expect new vehicle sales to grow 16.4%, to take annual new vehicle sales through the 995,000 unit mark.

We are expecting a stronger performance from passenger car sales (+17.8%) than commercial vehicle sales (+11.9%) over our forecast period.

A prolonged period of low global oil prices continues to pose a downside risk to our forecasts to 2020.

Local auto production is limited, with at present only Japanese firm Isuzu Motor and Arabian Vehicles & Trucks Industry - a joint venture between Zahid Tractor & Heavy Machinery and Volvo Truck Corporation - producing small numbers of commercial vehicless in country.
