Rwanda Telecommunications Q4 2019
Rwanda's mobile market continues to perform in line with our forecasts in this Q119 update. We believe that the mobilemarket has strong organic growth potential particularly in rural and previously underserved areas. 3G/4G growth will also be robust, and we expect 4G to account for the majority of subscriptions by 2028. Expanding 4G network coverage, advanced data and value-added services along with mobile expansion beyond saturated urban areas will continue to drive this growth. As lower prices arerolled onto the end user, the uptake in 3G/4G connections will continue to cannibalise dedicated mobile and wireline broadbandconnections and be the main growth driver of the mobile market. Our wireline forecasts remain unchanged at very low levels, butwe note that the government's national broadband plan, as well as operator-led investments, will continue to pose upside risk onour broadband forecasts. However, we caution that further SIM registration exercises may be carried out over the next decade, andthere may be periods where subscription growth will accelerate rapidly as operators vie for market share with aggressive promotionsbefore falling back.
