Rwanda Telecommunications Report Q2 2018
The Rwandan telecommunications regulator has approved the merger of the second and third largest mobile operatorsin the country - Airtel and Tigo. The new entity, with nearly 60% market share, is likely to decrease the competition in the market, which will effectively be a duopoly, and could reduce investment in the country's telecoms sector. Rwandan mobile marketpenetration is at 72.2%, which indicates that there is still scope for growth, which is most likely to come from rural areas, whichrequires investment. On the other hand, BMI has a very favourable view of economic growth in Rwanda for the next few years, whichwill bode well for consumer spending.
