Similar to other areas of the Russian economy, the country's tourism industry offers both enormous growth potentialand major structural challenges. Restrictions on entry mean that Russia remains a less accessible destination compared withcompeting markets in Central and Eastern Europe, and underdeveloped accommodation and transport infrastructure also limit thereach of tourism within the country. There are, however, a multitude of attractions in place to entice visitors, and the country boastsa substantial domestic tourism sector. Russia is likely to attract some investment to its tourism industry, particularly the hotel sectorwhere there is room for greater competition from established global brands.
