Russia Power Report Q3 2018

BMI View:

Russia's power sector, despite enormous theoretical growth potential, will continue to stagnate in 2018. Transport andindustry and consumption is waning, a reflection of Russia's poor economic state, and this will affect total generation in the market, despite a slight anticipated increase in household consumption. The country does benefit from substantial natural resources, a factreflected in the dominance of thermal power, particularly natural-gas fired power, which will remain the primary source of electricityin Russia over the coming years. Hydropower and nuclear power are also well established, leaving very little room for thedevelopment of renewable energy.
